Feta Psiti: The original baked feta

Feta was a fan of the oven long before TikTok!

Real Greek feta cheese is the perfect choice for baking thanks to its incomparably creamy texture. Baked feta is a common Greek appetizer -- paired with tomatoes, peppers, olive oil, and oregano it is called Bouyiourdi. Also known as Feta psiti, you can choose to omit the veggies and keep it simple and spicy, like in this recipe.

Spicy baked feta is packed with a mind-blowing amount of flavor despite using just a few ingredients and taking about 2 minutes to prepare. Serve piping hot with plenty of crusty bread or pita. Creamy Greek feta will literally spread like butter when it's baked!

How spicy is too spicy? Truthfully, it's hard to overdo it with the chili flakes here! There's something about the tangy creaminess that offsets the heat, so it's recommended you use more chili flakes than you think you can handle! Use dried red chili flakes (the kind you put on pizza) or for a twist try Aleppo pepper.

Feta Psiti (Spicy Baked Feta) Recipe

1 (8 oz / 225g) slice feta cheese

2 to 3 teaspoons olive oil

1 to 2 tablespoons crushed red chili flakes, to taste

1 generous pinch dried oregano

Preheat oven to 400 F (200 C).

Place the feta in an ovenproof baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil. Cover liberally with red chili flakes, and sprinkle with oregano.

Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven until feta is soft, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately with slices of crusty bread, pita bread, or crackers.
